LEARN SANSKRIT
Do you want to learn what yoga is according to Patañjali, the authoritative text on yoga? Do you want to learn how to chant the sūtras? Are you looking to deepen your spiritual practice and take action beyond the mat, outside the studio, and into your "whole" Life? If your answer is YES to any or all of these, you really want to get in on this! Yoga is designed as a science for actualizing our fullest human potential in order to be liberated from our shortcomings, and these sūtras are meant to first be transmitted from teacher to student by way of sound, i.e. chanting, then memorized so the practicing aspirant may become the word in the flesh. This introductory workshop on Patañjali's Yogasūtras (PYS) offers a taste of what it’s like to learn and study its profound, practical wisdom as the ancients did. CHANT & TRANSLATE Not only will we go over the names and objectives of all four chapters in PYS, we'll also explore basic Sanskrit pronunciations necessary for chanting the sūtras before we actually chant them. The sūtras we cover will be select foundational sūtras in Chapter 1 explaining what yoga is and the 5 basic mental activities that lead to affliction (or not), while getting a word-for-word translation of the Sanskrit terms for the sūtras we discuss. ENHANCE YOUR PRACTICE While this 2.5 hour session is designed for anyone, it is especially ideal for new & aspiring yoga practitioners and instructors who are looking to expand their philosophical and experiential knowledge base so they can show up more authentically in their own lives or for their students if they happen to teach. This session is also great for spiritual professionals in other areas who benefit from knowing more because of the diverse backgrounds of their clientele. |
Yoga āsanas help us live healthier, and more than that, Yoga, in its truest form, has the power to influence us to actualize our fullest human potential. In this spirit, Damon has fervently studied and practiced essential yoga for almost two decades and strives to incorporate his personal study and practice into every facet of his life, including his teaching and mentoring. His growing interest in yoga led him to completing multiple certifications: 200-hr Ashtanga Yoga/Vinyasa Flow, 500-hr Viniyoga, and he’s currently working toward completing an Advanced 1000-hr Yoga Therapist Certification.
Beyond his formal training, Damon is passionate about Patañjali’s Yoga Sūtras, the most widely accepted authoritative text on YOGA, and has dedicated much of his time toward studying and learning the word-for-word translations of the sūtras, their overall meanings, practical applications they have to everyday life, and how to chant them in their original Sanskrit (which he now also teaches). Damon recognizes that yoga is just a word, if we remove the word, we are left with the practice — a way of being that enlivens us to blossom so we may live life in full bloom. Damon prefers to meet a person where they are and support and inspire them to create and experience the most incredible and rich life possible. |
