The Tools of Yoga
FREE 90-Minute Talk NOTE: Space is limited. RSVP early! CLICK HERE to find the next session. Many people don’t know about all the tools of yoga, especially those who have never tried any form of yoga. Most in our society mistakenly assume that yoga is about the body and requires flexibility already, and about performing difficult postures and poses, which just isn’t the case. Yoga is actually about the mind, how to develop and polish it so we may attend more fully and show up better in our lives. Join us for this FREE 1-hour talk to learn what yoga is (and is not), and about the various powerful tools of yoga that don’t involve poses, a mat, or sweating. This is ideal for anyone who hasn’t done yoga before (but is curious), any new, aspiring, or seasoned yoga instructors, and DIY yogis who picked up their own practice by attending a few classes and/or watching yoga videos. |
The Yoga Sūtras of Patañjali
$22 registration fee (before event) / $33 at the door NOTE: Space is limited. CLICK HERE to find the next session. We encourage you to register in advance. In this workshop you will learn what yoga is according to Patañjali. I will demonstrate how to chant the sūtras as a way to deepen your spiritual practice and take action beyond the mat, outside the studio, and into your "whole" Life. This introductory workshop on Patañjali's Yogasūtras (PYS) offers a taste of what it’s like to learn and study the profound, practical wisdom as the ancients did.Yoga is a science for actualizing our fullest human potential. The sūtras are meant to first be transmitted from teacher to student by way of sound, i.e. chanting, then memorized so the practicing student may become the word in the flesh. During this interactive session we will go over the names and objectives of all four chapters in PYS, and explore basic Sanskrit pronunciations necessary for chanting the sūtras before we actually chant them. The sūtras we cover will be select foundational sūtras in Chapter 1 explaining what yoga is and the 5 basic mental activities that lead to affliction (or not), while getting a word-for-word translation of the Sanskrit terms for the sūtras we discuss. We’ll also go over the 9 distractions of mind and two of the seven solutions. |
